A: Pull it off! Use a set of tweezers to grasp the tick near the skin, pick the tick off and keep it in a jar for identification. If your dog is vomiting, drooling, barking strangely, having trouble breathing or unable to get up, please contact us straight away. 

A: The most effective way to eliminate fleas is to treat all dogs and cats in the household with an oral or spot-on flea treatment. We recommend Nexgard or Bravecto as these products also prevent paralysis ticks from biting your pet. We see many cases of tick paralysis every year in the South Burnett region and prevention is most definitely better than treatment!

A: Puppies should receive vaccinations for parvovirus, distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and bordetella bronchiseptica (kennel cough). Kittens should be vaccinated at a minimum for feline panleukopaenia, feline herpesvirus and calicivirus.

A: Female and male pups and kittens, in good health, can be desexed at 6 months of age or when they reach sexual maturity. For large breed dogs, we recommend desexing around 12 months of age to allow for full maturity of bones and joints.

A: Ideally, puppy training starts straight away. A puppy can be handled even before it’s weaned from its mother, to help it become socialised and comfortable with people. Obedience and house training can begin around 4 weeks of age, as soon as the puppy is old enough to eat solid food.

A: Our equine dental vets are very experienced in the use of the ‘Powerfloat’. this tool utilises a diamond grinding disk to provide a smooth and trauma free finish to equine dentistry. The power float enables us to perform routine and advanced equine dental work with much less risk of damage to the soft tissues of the mouth. We utilise sedation to make the dental procedure as calm and stress free for the horse as possible, enabling us to get the job done quickly and without hassle.

A: We have limited space at the surgery for boarding but may be able to accommodate your needs on a case-by-case basis. Please call us o discuss how we can help you.

A: In most cases, purchase of S4 medications require a valid Client-Veterinary relationship. However, we do have a variety of over-the-counter medications available.
